Dokken Tooth and Nail Solo - George Lynch Cover
March 19th, 2007Here is a George Lynch solo played by Oliverto from Munich Germany. The metronome can be kind of distracting but he did a great job and really got the tapping part down.
Tooth and Nail was released by Dokken in 1984 and is one of their hardest sounding albums. The band lineup during this time included Don Dokken on vocals, George Lynch on lead guitars, Jeff Pilson on bass, and Mick Brown on drums. Tooth and Nail is the title track from the album and it showcases George Lynch’s distinctive style and tapping techniques.
Lynch is famous for his well-known legato technique and frequent use of the wide interval scale he calls the Gothic Octave. He’s also known for his use of a rapid sliding vibrato and tapped harmonics. Check out these lessons on “economy picking” and the “Gothic Octave” signature lick. Dokken was formed in 1977 and Tooth and Nail was released in 1984. The album sold over a million copies in United States and three million copies worldwide. It reached #49 on the U.S. Billboard album chart. Tooth and Nail is frequently called the breakthrough album for Dokken because it was the first of three platinum studio releases.
A great deal of Dokken’s achievements is credited to George Lynch’s guitar playing and songwriting. He recorded five extremely successful albums from 1983 to 1988 with the band. That helped him secure his spot as one of the most influential rock guitarists in modern music. His guitar playing earned Dokken a Grammy nomination in 1989 for Best Rock Instrumental.
